Greens and living foods contain a substance known as thylakoids. These slow fat digestion resulting in prolonged satiety. Fat in the stomach stimulates appetite-suppressing hormones and so by slowing fat digestion; more of these hormones are released, keeping blood levels high longer and your brain satisfied!
The rich green color of leafy greens comes from chlorophyll, a pigment found in those tiny green spheres inside the plant’s cells called chloroplasts. These little guys function as the energy factories for the plant. They convert water, CO2 and sunlight into oxygen and delicious sugars for us to delight in.
Here is one of the chloroplast spheres up close. Inside the membranes are stacks of steam engines called THYLAKOIDS.
Inside your stomach, the thylakoid membrane surrounds globules of fat from your meal and slows their breakdown. This keeps you full longer! Consuming greens promotes satiety and can be an effective strategy to control the intake of fatty foods when added to a meal. Cover 1/4 of your plate with greens at every meal and snack to feel full longer and more satisfied!
