Dr. Starr Ramson earned her doctorate from the University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine in Connecticut, where she graduated summa cum laude, at the top of her class. She first discovered her passion for nutritional biochemistry as a student of advanced nutrition and human metabolism at the University of Vermont. In medical school, she was inspired by the human body’s inherent ability to respond to disturbances of all kinds. From micronutrient deficiencies to stealth infections, toxins or emotional traumas, the stressors imposed on the body inspire action on the biochemical, structural and cognitive levels. Symptoms therefore, are empowering clues about the stressors and evidence of the inherent tendency of the human body to adapt. Dr. Ramson’s decade of dedicated study of human pathology guides her knowledge and skill in diagnosis but she recognizes that identifying organ, genetic and biochemical lesions is not the sole means of generating cure. Dr. Ramson is fascinated by the behavior that emerges from the individual parts of the human body. This biological activity cannot be explained by studying the parts in isolation and to her, represents the inherent healing potential of the human organism. Vitality is an expression of the continuous pursuit of equilibrium and balance, a concept that is equally biological and spiritual in nature and is shared by all forms of life. Dr. Ramson takes a comprehensive history and maps your story in a way that allows her to identify the current stressors and so that, like peeling an onion, you can begin to remove the obstacles to cure. As you eliminate the things that do not serve you and provide the raw materials required for regeneration, your body, like all complex adaptive systems, will re-organize so that you can shine as your highest self in the present moment.

Hello Pat,
Thank you so much for reaching out. I do utilize bio-identical hormones when necessary. Often, I start by looking for the root cause of the imbalance and support the body as much as possible to produce hormones naturally. Once this foundation is in place, I use hormones when needed.
I offer free 15 minute meet and greet calls for you to ask questions and to share about your concerns. Would you like to set up a time to speak? I’m happy to help! Are you local in San Diego?
Sincerely,
Dr. Starr

Hi Dr. Ramson,
I was told by Precision Analytical that you carry their DUTCH testing kits. How much would the Cycle Mapping & Complete Bundle (Female only) test kit cost?
Thanks,

Dr. Starr,
Where have you been all my life? You are a genius! I found your article today! Boy would I like to talk to you if you have time!
I’m 57 years old & started having digestive issues in my mid 20’s (1985). When I was in my 20’s I went ito visit a gastroenterologist & took in some research on HCL w/Pepsin. The gastroenterologist looked at me like I was nuts & ask me if I had any acid issues. When I told him that I had some acid issues but really wanted to focus on the reasons why my food would not digest, he ignored me & ONLY heard the word ACID. He prescribed Nexium!!! I took it because I thought I should, since he was the doctor. I blame Nexium for the problems I developed later on! I lost 40 pounds in 2 months & ended up at Mayo Clinic & they diagnosed small bowel bacterial overgrowth. Before Mayo, a gastroenterologist diagnosed gastroparesis after taking a gastric emptying test. I have all of the problems you mentioned in your article: high blood pressure, low stomach acid, gastroparesis & small bowel bacterial overgrowth! I was thrilled when I found your article because I only had the puzzle pieces , but am now able to put the entire puzzle together… a vagal nerve imbalance. Wow! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hello Kerra,
I am so sorry to hear about the difficult journey you have been on. Thank you so much for reaching out and for sharing your story. It takes a lot of courage endure what you’ve been through. Our digestive systems are very much parallel to how we “digest the world” and when we cannot absorb the nutrition we are feeding ourselves there is often a nervous system component that relates back to how we feel about ourselves in the world. Do we deserve nutrients? Do we have the ability to transform information we take in into material that helps us thrive? Do we know how to survive? These are all questions that come up when we are healing our digestive systems. Food is the first language we learn to communicate what we need and is the first way we take care of ourselves. For this reason, healing digestive issues usually involves some work on self worth and personal power in addition to healing the vagus nerve.
SIBO-small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, is a challenge to treat but even more challenging is getting to the root of why it occurred and preventing relapse.
I wish you the best in your journey. Please let me know if I can help.
Warmly,
Dr. Starr

Hi Dr. Starr,
My name is Katherine Phillips and I found your website on yelp and wanted to know if you had any suggestions for steroid withdrawal symptoms. My boyfriend used as prescribed hydrocortisone to treat eczema and after researching soon realize how detrimental this is to your body’s natural cortisol levels as well as other health consequences. He has been suffering from chronic/weeping eczema in the face and neck area as a result of steroid withdrawal for almost 2 years now and have tried many things from probiotics to reducing certain foods and trying all natural products and more, but am open to any other suggestions you might have.
Thank you in advance!

Hello Andrea,
Yes I do! I always test multiple lab values before prescribing iodine. Please feel free to call my office to schedule an appointment (619) 345-3111. If you are seeking iodine treatment with your doctor, be sure you have your thyroid antibodies and serum iodine tested before starting treatment. Let me know how else I can support you!

Hi … I have severe stomach pain and was diagnosed with H-pylori infection and I also have high Candida found through high Arabinose in an OAT test. The pain is quite intense and stabbing and very frequent… I’m very tempted to take the antibiotics but am worried about the Candida and worsening depression/ anxiety if I do. Do you have success healing H-pylori and restoring gut lining? Do you deal with thyroid issues, depression and anxiety? Thankyou so much… I hope you can reply. Sincerely- Zara

Hi Dr. Starr, Do you specialize in hormone inbalance for perimenopausal women including prescribing bio-identical hormone?
LikeLike
Hi Dr. Starr,
I went to my doctor because I believe I’ve been experiencing hormone imbalance symptoms. The labs for my TSH level came out normal. My question is: by solely testing this hormone would any imbalance be detected? If my TSH levels came out normal does that rule out any possibility of hormone imbalance? Or could an imbalance still be possible and other hormones should be tested? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts — thank you!
